Willow House: Mary

The air raids were very scary. There was a blue warning first, then a red warning. You had to sit quietly inside.

Willow House: MaryAnd you would count the planes overhead, the ones going out of the airfield, and how many came back.

Once a bomb dropped by the church, it made a big hole in the ground and killed two cows. In our house, it smashed the grandfather clock’s face, all the crockery we had in boxes on the landing. It was beautiful china that had been left to us by our late grandma.

That was the only damage to the house this time.
