Transitions Project: Poetry by Clifton Green Primary School (4)

The focus of this next poem from the students of Clifton Green Primary School is a memorable historical figure who was born in our city.

‘Remember, remember
The fifth of November!’
Well, how could I forget?
The gunpowder plot,
Guy Fawkes, his treason – I think not!

In 1605 he tried to kill King James the first,
(In perhaps the worst)
Failed plot I’ve ever seen.
Thought I won’t deny he was keen
A fearful character indeed!

You may think he’s gone,
But his ghost lives on,
Wandering inside my walls.
Now people celebrate on Bonfire Night,
With fireworks creating an extraordinary sight,
Listen closely – you may hear his calls!
