The Queen

Posted on 31 March 2012 | Narrative

Tom Howdle has provided us with another poem which takes us up to modern times, and 2012′s visit to York by the Royal Family.

There’s great excitement
In York today,
As the Queen is coming
What more can I say.

Philip as always
Stands by her side,
And Princess Beatrice
Did not try to hide.

They entered the city
Through Micklegate Bar,
Along with the Mayor
In an open top car.

As she approached the Minster
The day had kept sunny
For her to present
The Maundy Money.

She was showered with flowers,
Just bunch after bunch,
On her way to the Mansion House
For a well-earned lunch.

At the Yorkshire Museum
The day had just gone,
Marking the 800th Anniversary
Of the Royal Charter by King John.

York will not forget
This wonderful day,
Especially the children
When they come out to play.

So we say farewell
And wish her the best,
For her Diamond Jubilee
Which is coming up next.
