Telling Arts: Grand-dad Harry

Posted on 28 August 2012 | Narrative

This week, we are featuring stories told to us at an open session by Telling Arts. Firstly, here’s a tale from 7-year-old Lucy from Haxby.

“My Grand-dad Harry was a ‘fireguard’ (warden) in the wartime.

He didn’t have a gun. He was very, very brave and helped people out of their houses when the bombs came and set them on fire.

He had a soldier who looked after him when the people got angry when they had to get out the house. They had to put the lights out so it was too dark for the aeroplanes to see where they were going.”
